Why This Cozy Cabin in Rivière-Rouge Should Be Your Next Getaway

Looking for a relaxing weekend away from Montreal? Planning a ski trip to Mont-Tremblant or a biking adventure on the P’tit Train du Nord? This cozy cabin in Rivière-Rouge should be your next destination. Just two hours from Montreal and nestled in the heart of the Laurentians, this rustic chalet is the ideal escape from city life. I recently spent two nights here in July 2024 and had an incredible experience! Here’s the inside scoop:

Location, Location, Location

Tucked away in the Laurentian Mountains, this Airbnb is surrounded by some of Quebec’s most stunning scenery. With the Riviere Rouge flowing nearby and Mont-Tremblant and the P’tit Train du Nord just a short drive away, the location is hard to beat. The cabin is a quick two-hour drive from Montreal, offering beautiful views of the Laurentians along the way. Once you arrive, you’ll find the cabin set back from a quiet road, nestled against the river, offering a secluded and peaceful retreat.

The cabin

Comfort and Convenience

This cozy cabin comfortably accommodates up to four guests, making it perfect for small groups or couples. It features two bedrooms—one with a queen bed and the other with a double bed—plus a spacious lounge with a wood fireplace. The cabin is adorned with alpine memorabilia, transporting you to a European ski chalet. The kitchen, complete with a stunning wood stove, is well-equipped with everything you need for a self-sufficient weekend. There’s also an outdoor dining area, complete with a BBQ and a wraparound deck.

While the cabin has a rustic feel, it’s outfitted with modern amenities like a contemporary bathroom and shower, a TV with Netflix, and Wi-Fi. I loved the thoughtful touches, like outdoor blankets and board games to enjoy outside, and cozy outdoor lounge areas perfect for curling up with a book. The cabin also includes essential amenities such as free parking, pet-friendly policies, and a well-stocked kitchen with a coffee maker and Nespresso. Bedding and towels are provided, making your stay effortless.

Outdoor Entertaining

One of the highlights of this cabin is its setting amidst the Laurentian mountains. Upon arrival, you’ll feel like you’re hidden away from the world, surrounded by lush forests and the soothing sound of the river trickling by. The cabin is perfect for outdoor entertaining, with two outdoor areas: one on the deck with a BBQ and a separate fire pit. It’s an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. My favorite part of the cabin was the outdoor fire pit, complete with Adirondack chairs and fairy lights. We spent many evenings here, roasting marshmallows and unwinding after the day’s adventures.

Nearby Attractions

The cabin’s location is one of its biggest draws. Situated next to Riviere Rouge and just moments from Mont-Tremblant, it’s also set among the trails of the P’tit Train du Nord. In Mont-Tremblant, you’ll find a variety of activities to choose from. During the warmer months, hiking, visiting Scandinave Spa, and biking are popular, while the colder months offer world-class skiing and snowboarding, along with winter activities like snowmobiling and tubing. The area is also home to fantastic restaurants and a charming pedestrian village perfect for shopping and exploring.

We chose this cabin because of its proximity to Riviere Rouge, where we went on a 12 km kayaking excursion (check out my full blog post here). The river is a must-see, and I highly recommend looking into a kayaking or canoeing trip during the summer.

The cabin is also centrally located near Le P’tit Train du Nord, an iconic 234-kilometer linear park in the picturesque Laurentides region. Originally a railway line, this renowned trail boasts flat and easily navigable terrain, making it a cyclist’s paradise. As the longest linear park in Canada, it’s popular year-round, offering activities such as biking, rollerblading, cross-country skiing, winter cycling, and snowmobiling. After a day of adventure, you’ll have a restful place to recharge.
