Unwind in Style: Hyatt Place Montreal Review for the Ultimate Downtown Retreat

If you’re looking for a modern and upscale hotel right in downtown Montreal, Hyatt Place Montreal – Downtown is the perfect mix of convenience, comfort, and great amenities. We stayed here on a Saturday night in June 2025 for a one-night city staycation and had such a fabulous time! Our room was on a High Floor with a King Bed and Sofa-Sleeper with an amazing view and we absolutely loved it. In this Hyatt Place Montreal review, I’ll share why we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Montreal or locals looking for a fun staycation.

Disclosure: This stay was gifted. As always, all opinions and experiences shared are entirely my own.

Location: In the Heart of the Action

Hyatt Place Montreal – Downtown is located at 1415 Rue Saint-Hubert, just steps from the Berri-UQAM metro station. This puts you right between two lively neighbourhoods, the Village and the Latin Quarter. It is easy to walk to great spots nearby including Saint-Denis Street, Quartier des Spectacles, and Montreal’s historic Old Port (more on that later). You are also just a short metro ride away from popular attractions like Old Montreal and Mount Royal Park. On our visit, we took an Uber from Griffintown to the hotel, which only took about 10 minutes.

First Impressions and Check-In

The day we arrived, we got an email from Hyatt inviting us to check in online. The process was seamless. We could even add our estimated arrival time in case early check-in was possible. Check-in is usually at 3 p.m., which is an hour earlier than many other hotels. To our delight, we received another email at 11:30 a.m. letting us know our room was ready three and a half hours early!

We made our way to the hotel with plans to enjoy the facilities before check-in. When we arrived, the friendly front desk staff greeted us warmly and checked us in quickly. They asked how many keys we needed, handed us two bottles of water since it was 30 degrees outside, and took a standard security hold. They also took the time to explain where the pool and sauna were located, where breakfast would be served, and gave us directions to our room on the 29th floor.

The lobby is modern and bright with plenty of seating areas that create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. There were lots of people coming and going which I always find comforting as it gives a nice buzz when you first arrive at a hotel. The whole check-in process was so smooth that I was soon on my way up to the room feeling settled and ready to unwind.

Our King Room with a Sofa Sleeper

We stayed in a high-floor king room with a sofa sleeper, offering a spacious 309 square feet of comfort. The layout was smart and functional, featuring a modern bathroom, plenty of closet space, a large work desk, a cozy lounge area, and of course, the king bed. It felt like we had three separate areas to enjoy; the bedroom, lounge, and bathroom,  which made the space feel even larger.

The room was modern and spotless. Our king bed was huge, with crisp white linen sheets and plush pillows. I genuinely had one of the best sleeps of my life here, definitely helped by the blackout curtains! Each side of the bed had its own bedside table and light, along with plenty of USB and power outlets so you can charge all your devices without any hassle.

The lounge space featured a comfy sofa, an ottoman, and a movable table. We loved using this corner to play cards and sip a drink. It was so nice having a separate area to relax without needing to sit on the bed. The sofa sleeper in the cozy corner added extra seating and would be perfect for families or anyone needing a bit more room.

There was also a long work desk and countertop, plenty of drawers, and a built-in luggage rack. I really appreciated how well the room was designed to make the most of the space. Even the sliding bathroom door doubled as a full-length mirror, and the closet was built into the cabinetry for a clean, seamless look.

Other room features included:

  • A 55-inch flat-screen TV with Chromecast and Staycast for easy streaming. We watched a couple movies on Netflix and loved how easy it was to connect.
  • A Nespresso coffee maker and mini fridge
  • Wireless charging station for phones
  • Individual climate control
  • Iron and ironing board, safe, and extra storage

But my favorite part? The view! Our wall-to-wall window gave us breathtaking views of Olympic Park to the left, the St. Lawrence River, the Biosphere, and even glimpses of the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Being on a higher floor made it all the more impressive.

We loved the room so much that we decided to have a cozy movie night at the hotel, rather than experience Montreal’s nightlife as intended! Another aspect we loved was the 12pm check out, which again is 1 later than other hotels in the area.

Breakfast Buffet

Breakfast at Hyatt Place Montreal is served buffet-style and offers a delicious start to the day. It was included in our stay, but if it’s not part of your booking, you can add it for just $12 per person, which is very reasonable by hotel standards.

The breakfast area is clean, bright, and easy to navigate. I was impressed by the variety and freshness of the food available. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or something lighter, there’s a good selection to choose from.

The hot buffet included scrambled eggs, mini quiches, crispy bacon, and breakfast sausages, along with waffles and plenty of toppings and syrup. For something lighter, there was a yogurt station with granola and fresh fruit, plus a variety of breads, toast, and cereals. Drinks included fresh juices and good quality coffee. For a very expensive city, this option was super affordable and a great way to start the day and perfect for fueling up before heading out to explore Montreal.

Wellness Amenities with a View

One of my absolute favorite parts of the hotel was the pool and sauna area. Located on the 6th floor, the space features a stunning indoor pool surrounded by oversized cabanas, giving it a resort-like feel right in the heart of the city. It also overlooks the beautiful Parc Émilie-Gamelin, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.

The pool itself was spacious, and during a couple of our visits, we had it all to ourselves. That peacefulness was such a nice surprise compared to the usual crowded hotel pools. There were plenty of freshly folded, fluffy white towels available.

The dry sauna was a highlight as well. It had floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over the lush greenery of the park. We spent our first afternoon simply unwinding here alternating between dips in the pool, relaxing in the sauna, and lounging with our books in the cabanas. It truly felt like a peaceful urban retreat! Right next door, there’s also a well-equipped gym, which was rarely busy during our stay. The entire wellness space was bright, calm, and beautifully designed.

Other Amenities

The hotel offers a number of meeting and conference rooms, making it a great choice for both business and leisure stays. I also loved how many little nooks there were throughout the property to lounge in, many of them equipped with charging stations and games. It was such a nice touch to have inviting spaces outside of the room to sit, relax, or get some work done.

Next to the breakfast buffet area, there is a bar, which is perfect if you want to stay in and enjoy a pre-dinner drink without going out. Another very convenient feature was the mini grocery shop in the lobby. It had all the essentials such as snacks, drinks, deodorant, razors, toothpaste, and more. This was really helpful if you forgot something or needed a quick grab-and-go item.

Aside from the hotel, there is also a Starbucks located in the same complex, along with an IGA and some other stores.

Things to Do Nearby

One of the best parts about staying at Hyatt Place Montreal is how close it is to so many fun and interesting spots. Here are some of my favourite places that are super easy to get to from the hotel:

  • Émilie-Gamelin Place: Directly opposite the hotel, this stunning park and urban space offers plenty of activities like games, food trucks, and events. When we stayed, there was a huge salsa dancing class happening, and it was so lively and fun to watch.
  • La Grande Roue de Montréal: the city’s impressive Ferris wheel right in the Old Port. Great for amazing views. Check out my guide here
  • The Eaton Centre and the Underground City: perfect if you want to do some shopping or need to escape the weather for a bit.
  • La Ronde amusement park: a Six Flags theme park that’s so much fun. We went there on our check-out day and had a blast.

  • Quartier des Spectacles: Montreal’s vibrant entertainment district with festivals and performances all year long. On our first night, we walked over (about 15 minutes) and caught the Francos de Montréal festival, a lively 10-day celebration of Quebec culture. We also grabbed dinner at Pizzeria No. 900 nearby, just a short walk away.

  • The Latin Quarter: full of cozy cafés, lively bars, and unique shops along Rue Saint-Denis.
  • Old Port of Montreal: a beautiful historic waterfront area perfect for a stroll and some stunning views of the St. Lawrence River.
  • Place des Arts: where you can catch concerts, ballets, and art exhibitions.

With so much nearby, you will have no trouble filling your days with fun experiences, then coming back to a cozy and comfortable hotel room at night.

Final Thoughts: A Comfortable, Convenient Choice in Downtown Montreal

We absolutely loved our one-night stay at Hyatt Place Montreal – Downtown. The modern, spacious room with the comfiest bed and blackout curtains made it easy to relax and get an amazing night’s sleep. The thoughtful design of the hotel and the beautiful, spotless bathroom and sensational views of the St Lawrence River & Olympic Park were also highlights.

The pool and sauna were one our favorite parts and we loved spending time there, swimming, relaxing and taking in the gorgeous view of the park below. Breakfast was a great way to start the day, and the hotel’s location made exploring Montreal’s best spots simple and stress-free. Being so centrally located means you can discover the best of Montreal without any hassle, and the friendly service makes you feel welcome from check-in to checkout.

Whether you’re visiting for work, a quick weekend getaway, or just want a change of scenery close to home, Hyatt Place Montreal is a welcoming, beautiful hotel that won’t disappoint!
