Selfie Studio Reimagined: Exploring Musée Imaginarium in Montreal

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in Montreal, look no further than Musée Imaginarium, where art, imagination, and fun come together. With 16 different universes, each designed for selfies and incredible visuals, this museum is a playground for creativity. I visited in December 2024, and it was truly a fantastic experience! Here’s everything you need to know about visiting this immersive museum. Please note: I visited Musée Imaginarium as part of a collaboration, but all views are my own.

What is Musee Imaginarium?

Musée Imaginarium is a creative collaboration between industry professionals in film and design. Led by production designer Léa-Valérie Létourneau and consultant designer Élisabeth Williams, alongside artists like Dan Buller and Edward Maloney for murals, and Jason Wasserman and Romain Boz for thematic universes, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience blending art and interaction. The museum features 16 unique universes, ranging from tropical-themed rooms and intergalactic exhibits to a life-sized poutine pool. Each exhibit is designed to inspire stunning photos, unique  videos, and iconic selfies.

‘Tiki Party’

My Experience

My boyfriend and I visited Musée Imaginarium on a snowy December day, unsure of what to expect. The space immediately surprised me—it’s massive, covering an impressive 4,500 square meters. The reception area was decked out in stunning pastels, setting the tone for the colorful adventure ahead.

A friendly staff member greeted us and explained how the museum worked. We were provided with a wireless selfie remote control, which made capturing pictures a breeze. We were advised that there were numerous selfie stands throughout the exhibits, so we could take photos together using the wireless remote control.

Wireless Camera Remote & Lockers Available to Store Belongings

We were provided with a locker for our belongings, and a coat rack was available—super convenient for a winter visit. One thoughtful touch I loved was the wall of colorful Crocs available to borrow. Not only did they help keep the space clean, but they also doubled as a quirky photo prop!

We started exploring the 16 themed universes, each one a unique set filled with photo opportunities and fun props. The exhibits had tons of props, from silly hats and sunglasses to themed costumes and accessories. The lighting in every space was incredible, making it easy to take professional-looking photos and videos.

‘Montreal Poutine Pool’

Every room was packed with artistic details, and we loved noticing the creative touches that made each universe come to life. My favorite exhibits included:

  • The Black Box: A mirrored room filled with sparkling lights that made us feel like we were floating in another dimension.
  • Montreal Poutine Pool: A ball pit designed to resemble poutine, complete with foam fries and cheese curds. It brought out my inner child!
  • Tiki Party: A tropical-themed space with tiki cocktail glasses, flowers, and pineapples. It was the perfect escape from the snowy day outside!
  • Psychedelic Afternoon Delight: A retro bedroom decked out with ukuleles, toys, and even a Christmas tree—super nostalgic vibes!

We spent about an hour wandering through the exhibits & taking photos & videos, before ending at the gift shop. We found that even the washroom was photo-worthy & stunning! Overall, Musée Imaginarium was such a fun and interactive experience—exactly the dopamine boost we needed on a grey winter day.

Tons of props to choose from!
