My Dermalogica Facial Experience in Montreal: Review & Guide

It’s no secret that I love indulging in skincare treatments while exploring new spas and wellness hubs in Montreal. Recently, I booked a ProSkin 60 Facial at the Dermalogica flagship store on Rue McGill, located in Old Montreal. This was my first time visiting the store and trying a facial using Dermalogica products. I used ClassPass to book (more on that later) and scheduled my visit for December 23, 2024, as a maintenance facial before heading off on a month-long vacation. Here’s everything you need to know about the experience and how to book your own Dermalogica facial.

Booking Experience

I booked my facial using ClassPass, a subscription-based wellness service. With credits to use up before my trip, I decided to treat myself to a facial. The ProSkin 60 Facial cost me 18 credits (equivalent to approximately $45) and was categorized as an “open space” treatment, meaning the facial would take place in the storefront area rather than in a private treatment room.Booking through ClassPass was seamless, as always. If you don’t use ClassPass, you can book directly online via Dermalogica Montreal’s booking portal: Book Here.

Arrival at Dermalogica Montreal

The Dermalogica flagship is located at 132 Rue McGill, a convenient and easily accessible spot in Old Montreal. The inside of the spa is sleek and minimalist, creating a calming atmosphere from the moment you step in. Upon arrival, I checked in with the friendly staff and was soon greeted by my esthetician, Sindy. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the “open space” setup and assumed I’d be seated in a chair for the facial. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find proper spa beds tucked away at the back of the store.

The open-space spa area

Even though the treatment area was technically open, I was the only customer in the store, which made it incredibly quiet and relaxing. It felt like having my own private—albeit spacious—treatment room. After being prompted to change into a robe, I settled into one of the spa beds, which was covered with a cozy blanket. The setup felt private, comfortable, and far more luxurious than I had anticipated for an “open space” treatment.

The Facial Experience

Step 1: Skin Analysis

My session began with an in-depth Face Mapping® skin analysis, where my Skin Therapist assessed my skin under a magnifying light. We discussed my main concerns—winter dryness and congestion along my T-Zone. Sindy explained how the ProSkin 60 would target these issues through customized treatments tailored to my skin’s needs.

Step 2: Cleanse & Exfoliation

The facial kicked off with a double cleanse using Dermalogica’s iconic PreCleanse and a soothing gel cleanser, ensuring every trace of makeup and impurities was removed. This was followed by their Daily Microfoliant, a gentle exfoliant to complete the cleanse.

Step 3: Extractions

Once my skin sufficiently cleansed, Sindy then expertly performed extractions using Dermalogica’s Ultrasound Technology. This innovative tool features a flat, smooth metal blade—commonly called a skin scrubber—that uses sound wave vibrations to loosen dead skin cells and impurities. Held at a 45-degree angle, the blade worked its magic with upward movements, gently lifting away congestion and polishing my skin. The process was not painless, non-invasive, and surprisingly relaxing!

Step 4: Advanced Treatments

The highlight of the facial was the application of advanced serums, Hyaluronic Ceramide Mist and a masque tailored to my skin’s specific needs. Sindy used products enriched with hydrating ingredients and applied a cooling mask to soothe redness and irritation. The Ultrasound Technology made another appearance, this time enhancing the absorption of active ingredients for deeper hydration and nourishment.

Step 5: Massage & Moisturize

To complete the experience, I received a relaxing massage targeting my face, neck, and shoulders, which was another highlight. This massage aimed to boost circulation and left me nearly drifting off to sleep! Sindy finished with moisturizer, SPF for protection, and lip balm to combat winter dryness. Sindy did an amazing job and my skin felt rejuvenated and was absolutely glowing. I was also offered about tons of free product samples that were used during the treatment, which were so handy for my upcoming holiday.

Cost & Booking

The ProSkin 60 Facial costs $120 for a private space or $99 for the open-space treatment I experienced. Both options are excellent value for the personalized care and advanced techniques provided. Keep in mind that prices don’t include gratuity, so budget accordingly. Booking is seamless—whether through their website, ClassPass, or by calling the flagship store directly.
