It’s no secret that Uncovering Montreal loves indulging in massages and facials while exploring new spas in the city. Recently, I treated myself to a one-hour aromatherapy massage at Spa William Gray, located in the heart of Montreal’s historic Old Port. I visited on a snowy morning and had an exceptional experience. From the luxurious ambiance to the therapeutic treatments, this review of Spa William Gray will cover everything you need to know to plan your own relaxing visit!
Arrival at Spa William Gray
Spa William Gray is situated on P1 of the Hotel William Gray – an iconic hotel in Montreal’s Old Port. I had visited the hotel prior to dine at their restaurants including Maggie Oakes (a fabulous brunch spot) and Terrasse Perché (one of my favorite terraces in summer). Like the hotel, the spa exudes charm with its dark hues, exposed brick, and festive holiday décor and is a serene oasis from Montreal’s bustling streets. Once we arrived, we checked in with reception and were directed to the washrooms to access our lockers.

The Pre-Spa Experience
The washrooms were immaculate and well-stocked with amenities like showers, luxurious hand soaps, body lotion, shower caps and more. I was provided a locker, which included a plush bathrobe and towel – the robe was actually one of the softest and coziest I’ve ever worn! Once I changed, my massage therapist greeted me and led me to a private room for my aromatherapy massage.

The Massage Experience
The massage room was spacious and dimly lit, setting the tone for a deeply relaxing experience. My treatment began with selecting an essential oil blend from their collection. Options included:
- Aromasoul Mediterranean Blend (detoxifying, toning, and energizing)
- Aromasoul Arabian Blend (calming, restorative, and strengthening)
- Aromasoul Indian Blend (grounding, harmonizing, and balancing.
- Tranquility Blend (relaxing and soothing)

After taking deep breaths of each scent, I selected the Tranquility Blend & Mediterranean blend, which smelt incredible. My massage therapist then asked about any specific pain points, and I mentioned my upper back, a common issue from working at a less-than-ergonomic desk!
The massage table was a Gharieni spa bed, featuring a healing warm quartz massage surface. It was incredibly spacious, and comfortable, and the added heat was amazing on a snowy day.

The treatment followed a full-body Swedish style, with a focus on my upper back, neck, shoulders, and legs. One thoughtful feature of the spa bed was its ability to extend outward, allowing my arms to rest comfortably on either side during the arm massage—no awkward dangling! The aromatherapy and essential oils worked wonders to relax my muscles and also clear my sinuses. By the time I flipped onto my back for the second half of the massage, I was nearly asleep! My therapist skillfully worked on my pain points while keeping the session deeply calming.
Before I knew it, the 60 minutes were sadly over, leaving me so relaxed I could barely open my eyes. It was one of the best massages I’ve ever had! Next time, I’d definitely opt for a 90-minute session—it’s worth every minute.
Cost & Booking
The one-hour aromatherapy massage costs $169 (excluding tax and tip). All massages are performed by registered massage therapists (RMTs), so you can claim the expense through extended health benefits if applicable. Booking is easy through their website here.

Thermal Circuit
For an additional $65, you can enhance your experience with their thermal circuit, which includes:
- A Himalayan salt room
- Finnish sauna
- Eucalyptus steam room
- Experiential showers
- Cold room
- Herbal sauna
- A seasonal outdoor pool
While I skipped this add-on, it’s on my list for next time!

Other Treatments
The spa offers a variety of massage therapy options, including Swedish, Thai oil, hot stone, and more. They also offer body treatments, like the Aromasoul Volcanic Scrub ($149 for 60 minutes) which uses essential oil blends for exfoliation and nourishment. They also provide beauty services, including nail care, waxing, and facials. A standout option for winter is the Deep Hydrating Treatment (60 minutes, $140), which features a three-phase brush massage for ultimate relaxation.
