Montreal is unlike any city in the world when it comes to year-round entertainment & parties. While other cities hibernate during winter, Montrealers embrace the chill and flock to outdoor events, even in -20°C weather! And there’s one festival that stands out in this winter wonderland: Igloofest. Each year, this outdoor electronic music festival transforms the Old Port into a neon-lit paradise, proving that sub-zero temperatures are no excuse to stay inside. If you’ve ever wondered why Igloofest has earned its legendary status, this guide covers everything you need to know. I had the chance to attend on February 1st, 2025, and it was an absolute blast! This is my second year attending, and here’s everything you need to know about this ultimate winter experience.

What is Igloofest?
Igloofest is an annual outdoor electronic music festival held in Montreal’s Old Port (Quai Jacques-Cartier) every winter. Launched in 2007, it has become a signature event in the city, known for its impressive DJ lineups, frozen dance floors, and iconic retro ski suits. Typically spanning over three to four weekends, this festival celebrates music, fashion, and winter fun all in one place.

2025 Edition Highlights
The 2025 edition of Igloofest runs from January 16 to February 8, featuring 12 events. This year’s lineup includes a star-studded collection of DJs and artists, such as Claptone, Michael Bibi, Adriatique, Skepta, Zeds Dead, Steve Angello, Cloonee, Four Tet, and more. In addition to the main Montreal event, Igloofest is expanding its reach with special events in Gatineau and Quebec City. Following the Montreal festivities, Igloofest will head to Gatineau from February 13-15 and then to Quebec City from March 6-8, bringing the festival’s legendary winter experience to new locations across the province.

Igloofest Tickets: Which One to Choose?
There are a few ticket options to consider. The General Admission ticket, starting at $45, gives you access to the festival, the Igloo Village, and all the food trucks and bars. If you’re after a bit more comfort, the VIP Ticket, starting at $89, offers fast entry, a heated terrace with a view of the main stage, plus exclusive bathrooms and bars. And if you’re sticking around for the after-party, the Après-Ski Ticket, starting at $26, lets you keep the fun going once the main event wraps up.
Is VIP Worth It?
I’m not usually one to splurge on VIP, but at Igloofest, it really enhanced our experience! With our Videotron VIP tickets, we had access to a private heated terrace, complete with a bar, bathroom, and phone charging stations. Considering it was -20°C, the heated terrace was a lifesaver! We also were super close and had an amazing view of the main stage, giving us front-row seats to all the action!

6 Reasons Why Igloofest Stands Out
1) The Coldest Party in the World
Igloofest isn’t just a festival—it’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else. Dancing in subzero temperatures, surrounded by thousands of people, with snowflakes falling around you creates an atmosphere unlike anything else. It’s the kind of winter magic you have to experience at least once. Worried about the cold? Don’t be. Between fire pits, heated areas, and nonstop dancing, there are plenty of ways to stay warm. Plus, a hot drink or mulled wine never hurts.

2) Incredible Lineups
Year after year, Igloofest brings some of the biggest names in electronic music to Montreal. Whether you’re into house, techno, or bass-heavy beats, there’s always something for every taste. Past editions have featured artists like Diplo, Carl Cox, Rüfüs Du Sol, Nina Kraviz, and Kaytranada, ensuring the lineup never disappoints.

3) Igloovillage
Igloo Village is where the festival goes beyond just music. It’s packed with food trucks, bars, brand activations, and pop-ups, making it well worth arriving early to explore. In 2025, you can roast marshmallows, take a ski shot at Liquid IV’s Hydration Lodge, enter Loto-Québec draws (we won an Igloofest beanie!), and even slide down Sapporo’s Iglooglisse with amazing views of the Old Port. There’s also a maze and interactive photo setups by Banque Nationale. And if you love freebies, check out my video here here for everything up for grabs this year.

4) The Legendary Iglooswag Contest & Fashion
Fashion is just as much a part of Igloofest as the music. The Iglooswag contest is back for 2025, challenging festivalgoers to show up in their most creative, over-the-top winter outfits. Each weekend has its own theme from Rockstar Féroce to Freaks de la Musique! The prizes are just as exciting, including a Piknic 2025 Pass, VIP tickets, a luxury hotel stay, restaurant gift cards, and an Igloofest 2026 Pass. Whether you go all out or just enjoy the spectacle, Iglooswag is always a highlight.
5) Free Event: Igloofête
No ticket? No problem. Igloofête runs every Saturday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Old Port, offering a free way to experience the festival vibes. With live music, activities, and plenty of food, it’s a great way to soak up the energy of Igloofest—without the price tag.

6) Après-Ski: The Party Continues
Igloofest might wrap up around 10 PM, but the night is far from over. The Après-Ski parties keep things going until 3 AM at some of Montreal’s best venues, including Velvet, Auberge Saint-Gabriel, and New City Gas. After hours on the coldest dance floor in the world, warming up at one of these spots is the perfect way to end the night.

Tips for First-Timers
Dress for the Cold
Layering is essential. On top of your ski or snow jacket, wear thermals and base layers to stay dry. Pack a warm hat, waterproof boots, scarves, and gloves. Remember, you need to move and dance, so avoid getting too bulky. For example, I wore my ski gear—base layers, hoodies, thermal socks, ski pants, a ski jacket, snow goggles, and a beanie.
Arrive Early
The best spots near the stage fill up fast. Arriving early secures a good view and gives you extra time to explore Igloo Village before the crowds arrive.
Go All Out with Your Outfit
Use this opportunity to showcase your winter fashion. Whether it’s a vintage ski suit, a neon jacket, or unique accessories, bold and creative choices add to the festive vibe.
Stay Hydrated
Even in cold weather, it’s easy to forget to drink water. Keep your energy up by hydrating regularly, especially if you’re dancing and enjoying drinks from the bars.
Take Breaks
The festival can be intense. Pace yourself by warming up at a fire pit or recharging with a hot drink when needed. This will help maintain your energy throughout the night.
Bring a Portable Charger
Cold weather can drain your phone’s battery quickly. A portable charger ensures you can capture memories, navigate with maps, and stay connected with friends.
